Aaron Ruell is not only a photographer but also a filmmaker, and commercial director. As a commercial director SHOOT magazine had recently declared him one of the most promising new directors in the world of advertising and Creativity has written that he is one of the emerging artists to know now.
Moreover, in 2005 he was the only filmmaker to have two short films selected at Sundance, Everthing’s Gone Green and Mary, which he wrote and directed.
Without text, context, or pretext, Aron Ruell’s photographs elicit an immediate spark of recognition. For all their apparent banality, these images of ordinary people taken in nondescript settings draw the viewer in, from somewhere, in one image or another, lies a truth for everyone.
His photography has won various awards from PDN (Photo Disrict News) to the 2010 One Show. His work has been seen in magazines around the world and shown at galleries in the United States, Milan, and Buenos Aires.
colette brings his work to Paris for this first ever French exhibition. The images shown are a mix of still life scenarios as well as portrait work, including never before shown prints from a new series shot on location in a baroque California hotel, The Madonna Inn.
Born in 1976, he works and lives in California.
